A call for stories that aim to spark conversations about women’s and girls’ empowerment.
Inspired by The Breadwinner’s theme of storytelling, we’re launching a campaign to collect and share stories about gender equality with one goal in mind — harness the power of storytelling to amplify our message of education and empowerment. The more stories we share, the greater our collective ability to shape the conversation about the empowerment of women and girls around the world.
Be part of women’s and girl’s empowerment.
Add your voice and join the contest. A panel of guest judges, including Executive Producer Angelina Jolie, Director Nora Twomey, and Author Deborah Ellis will choose one winner per category listed below.
Each winner will receive a prize package including a limited edition framed print from The Breadwinner signed by Director Nora Twomey and a copy of the novel autographed by author Deborah Ellis. One grand prize winner will also receive an invitation for two to attend a private screening of The Breadwinner in Los Angeles, California (travel and accommodation included per Official Contest Rules) where they will have a chance to meet some of the filmmakers.
Submit a story. Write a short story or a modern-day fable that highlights courage and girls. The story must include any of the following elements: a character inspired by a real person, and a moral lesson. If writing a fable, include an inanimate object or an animal as a character. Post it on Facebook and submit your link here.
Submit your artwork. Using these images from the film as inspiration, create a representation of Parvana that showcases the values of bravery and strength. Share it on social and submit your link here.
Tell us about a breadwinner, a woman or girl who inspires you. Through FB or IG, share a picture or story about a breadwinner, a girl, or a woman who inspired you to rise above challenges in your own life, just like Parvana. Submit your link here.
Shout out to an ally. Parvana’s brother and father are key figures in the film. Who are the male allies to young women in your life? Through FB, IG or Youtube, share a creative image, video or story giving recognition to the dads or brothers who support you and your goals. Submit your link here.
